Located on a small corner block in one of Canberra’s oldest suburbs, this Yarralumla house project proves that less is more, and that size most certainly doesn’t matter. This modern house incorporates recycled red brick as a response to the 1950s architecture of the street, and the nearby Canberra Brickworks.A simple form that employs materiality & detail to address the challenges and constraints of the site resulted in a modern interpretation of the Canberra cottage.
Box House received a 2018 ACT Institute of Architects Award for Residential Architecture - Houses (New) More
Sally's House is a true testament to the owner's request for a light filled and functional Home that is luxurious and feminine, despite being a house full of boys. Living spaces are arranged around a central semi-internal courtyard allowing for continual views into the landscape throughout the house.
A mix of concrete, timber & stone throughout the interior provide a light colour palatte that is accentuated by the expansive full height windows. More
A home for two design loving creatives and their family, this home is a reflection of their passion for detail and an expression of their personal flair.
The house presents a strong rectangular façade to the street which is broken to reveal a landscaped front courtyard. The courtyard serves to heighten & prolong the sense of arrival to the house.
Large floor to ceiling windows frame the multiple courtyard vistas to create a distinctive link between the indoor and out. Steel and timber elements were used throughout the project to create contrast and compliment the Japanese inspired garden.
